Kyembogo Farmers Association (KYEFA) with great joy expresses its gratitude to all its supporters both locally and internationally as it launched its “Goat Project”.

On October 30th 2007 KYEFA hosted a reception and luncheon at its training center. Special guests included two members of Parliament; Hon. Tom Butiime and Stephen Kagwera, local government officials, Hon. Mwesige Christopher, Businge. Mrs. Masiko Kemigisa Sub-County chief and religious leaders; Fr. Richard Potthast, csc, Rev. Byamukama Steven and others from different dominions. We had a sizeable crowd about 300 men and women.

It was very fulfilling for me as we were touring demonstration plots around KYEFA center, I could hear the two Member of Parliament talk to themselves, “This is serious stuff. It’s impressive”.  They were so amazed on how the poor farm families once organized could take a baby step steps forward towards pulling themselves out of the trap of poverty.

After the tour, Fr. Richard Potthast CSC, the parish priest of St. Jude Tadeo, led the  opening prayer with a special blessing of the launching of the “Goat Project”.

The guests of honor had to admit that the steps that KYEFA as an organization has taken will ensure the farmers prosperity and good livelihood. He noted that most of the farm families have land and they could benefit much if only they learn from the demonstration
plots of KYEFA and start using the modern ways of farming in their homesteads.

He, Hon. Stephen Kagwera, further discouraged the habit of farmers seeking employment at tea estates since they can only realize 40,000 Uganda Shillings, ($23US). He strongly encouraged the farmers to concentrate on the farms and become entrepreneurs instead of seeking jobs that will keep them trapped in poverty.

Hon. Stephen further commended the efforts of KYEFA and called for collaboration from both the church and the government.

At the official launching ceremony of the “Goat Project,” the guest of honor Hon. Stephen challenged the farmers to each buy two goats on their own to increase their herd.  He offered his personal support by promising to give twelve (12) exotic he goats at
the coast of $150 each.  At the same time Hon. Tom Butiime the area Member of Parliament promised to give twelve (12) she goats.

In addition to the 150 goats we gave out last month, KYEFA received a generous donation of 140 goats, courtesy of the family of Peter and Wilma Veldman.

We are very grateful to all of you, who have supported us in this project,

Your continued support is highly appreciated.

God Bless you all,

Rev. George Muganyizi, csc.
