SATNET sets record at Agriculture Show 2007

SATNET sets a record for The Kabarole District Agriculture and Trade Show 18th -20th October 2007

In the beginning, it looked like it was never going to be. Little did anyone know that the most highly attended show was in the pipeline. Having been postponed for some months, it was now or never for the all important and treasured district agriculture and trade show.

This time round, Kabarole district local government selected SATNET to take lead in the preparations for this year’s event, an opportunity satnet took with both hands open. This was the beginning of the great story here for all of you to share.

Several meetings were conducted that saw Longino Masereka, Mugisha Samuel and Kasukaali Meth in the forefront together with the district officials both political and technical. This combined force could not fail by any standard. Like the saying goes, every gain there has got to be sweat, everyone at SATNET worked as if we were hosting another CHOGM. Thank God you all saw the outcome.

The show had several activities underneath including production of a magazine summarizing Kabarole district, radio talk shows mobilizing the populace, various fundraising initiatives and finally the show itself at Booma ground in Fort Portal.
The theme of this years show has become “Wealthy and Prosperous through Profitable Agriculture”.

Initially looked at as a district event, the trade show exhibited a national picture. Exhibitors came all the way from Kampala, Kasese and all over as if we were at Lugogo show grounds. Breweries, tea factories, and government programs like NAADS, PMA and AAMP were there to show value for money.

A record number of exhibitors brought a wide range of products ranging from agriculture, manufacturing and services like telecommunication. As thousands of people flocked the show ground, one old man was heard saying “ I had said I was not coming for this show little did I know that I would have missed the best district agriculture and trade show ever’. What did the district do this time, the old man kept wondering. At our stall, I then said thumbs up for SATNET.

Among the key guests at the show was Hon Salim Selah the State Minister for Micro Finance who assured farmers of the government support in providing crop finance under the Prosperity for All (Boona Baggagawale) program. Other guests included the Kabarole District Woman Member of Parliament, the Resident District Commissioner, The District Chairperson and his executive committee, the Muhikirwa of Tooro kingdom, Hon Stephen Kagwera MP Burahya, the Chairperson SATNET and of course the honorable farmers.

The key message at the show was how farmers could access markets now that the production side constraints had been responded to.
